… since God had provided something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect.
God had me in mind when Henry & Ellen did not come to perfection for their lives. This happened so that I could know Him, because I could never have known Him the way I do know Him now, if their life had been perfect. This is a mystery beyond my reasoning. Even before I knew that their lives had not been perfect, I was saved, & Henry’s life spoke.
Ellen wrote of Henry, “yes his life speaks’.” So powerful are those words to me because in Henry’s weaknesses he was strong, even though he didn’t seem to enter into a perfect life, according to world values, he certainly did enter into a true life of seeking to honour Jesus.
Henry’s imperfect life is a testimony to me. Being his great granddaughter, how blessed I am, that he testified & preserved, in his diary, such precious words, solely for me, & for everyone else, to read & wonder about his wonderful sincere faith in a mighty & loving God. Henry ‘s writings testify about Jesus in his life, even to revealing his weaknesses & tendencies to sin. Henry wrote down his private conversations with God, so that I could see the Word in action, in my great grandfather.
We are not of this world even though we are in it. We belong to Jesus. When we stand in faith for our lives, even our own family will reject & judge us. Children will disrespect their parents. Families & friends will be influenced by the evil one, & be swayed by gossip & stories; untruths. We who believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God Who takes away all of our sins & gives us eternal life, will become low in people’s eyes.
This is the Devil”s ploy, and I believe it to be the very same ploy used against Henry .
The Devil comes to destroy us. Jesus warns & reveals to us in John 10:10 that “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
The Devil tried to destroy my great grandfather’s reputation, even to putting logs in the eyes of Henry’s children, & into the eyes of Henry’s children’s children, & furthermore into the eyes of the generations to come, so that they couldn’t see Henry’s wonderful faith, hence seeing Jesus.
But God has a plan, a plan of redemption! Jesus blows those logs right out of the water from those beguiled eyes. He sheds majestic light on the Devil’s ploy.
God is the Father of Lights & has autonomy over the Devil! Jesus is the Light of the world & in that light is life itself! Ha Ha the Devil is destroyed & not us destroyed by the Devil.
God has made it like an adventure for me & put me on a journey to discover more & more everyday, the treasures of wisdom, hidden in the words of Henry’s diary. Henry tells me plainly about his imperfect life with Jesus.
When children & adults take hold of Jesus, & His words in the Bible, as Henry did for his life, then they can see the truth of God for themselves, & not listen to the lies of their enemy, the Devil.
Jesus is the Truth!
There is a difference between weakness & meekness too. Henry came under attack as he sought to abide in Jesus & encourage others to get born again into Jesus. See, what the world doesn’t recognize is, that when a person is conscious of their weakness, & is aware that their true strength comes only from living out their day with Jesus, then when they do that, they are really very strong, bursting with God’s power to save, in them. They may appear weak & sound weak but that is not the truth. Jesus is the Truth. At any time He could have wiped those Pharisees out, cracked open the earth to swallow them, or He could have asked His Father to get angels to carry Him to safety, but no! Jesus wants to save everyone! And my great grandfather knew that fact, & his life speaks! I thank God for my heritage! The blood of Jesus was spilled for every member of my family, past generations & future generations & His will WILL be done on earth as it is in Heaven! God is love!
